History of Dubai
The heritage of Dubai is rich even if the
creation of the Emirate itself is much more recent. The most important
developments in the history of Dubai have occurred since the discovery of oil fifty
years ago.
3000 AC: We can say that this is when the
story of Dubai began. Archaeological research has highlighted the human
presence since at least the Bronze Age.
5th to 7th century AD. JC: Jumeirah is a
step on the road of trade caravans linking Oman to what we call now Iraq.
People live on fishing, boat building and collecting pearls.
16th century: the European influence began
with the interests of Portugal for the commercial lines in the region.
1793: the Bani Yas tribe took political
power and came to Abu Dhabi. Dubai later becomes an addiction. This period in
the history of Dubai is marked by many tribal wars.
1820: Britain negotiated the first of many
maritime treaties with the local authority. This is the area the nickname Coast
treaty.
1833: Maktoum Bin Butti of the Bani Yas
tribe settled on the Shindagha peninsula at the very beginning and declared the
independence of the city of Abu Dhabi. His dynasty is still at the head of
Dubai today.
1870 Dubai became the principal port on the
Gulf Coast, so the city's prosperity has mainly to collect beads
1902: Following the introduction of heavy
taxes on the port Lingeh in Iran, many Iranian traders and Arab immigrants
migrate to Dubai where they are warmly welcomed. The expansion of business activities
in Dubai has never ceased.
The successful national and international
trade and Dubai has the largest Arabian souks.
1950: oil was discovered in the states of
Trier.
1960: Indian and Pakistani people in Dubai
are growing and breathing new life into the textile market and trade with the
Indian subcontinent.
1966: a sensitive step in the history of
Dubai when discovering Oil in Dubai Fateh oil field.
1971: United Arab Emirates are based in the
interests of mutual security and prosperity and join the Arab League. Opening
of the Dubai International Airport
1979: opening of the port of Jebel Ali The
World Trade Centre Dubai opens - it is the highest skyscraper in the city,
paving the way for a series of ambitious architectural projects.
1985: Emirates airline is based. The Jebel
Ali Free Zone is opened and attracts significant foreign investments
1996: Dubai World Cup is
organized for the first time. The Dubai Shopping Festival is created.
1999 : Burj Al-Arab
was established and selected as the only seven stars hotel in the world.
2002: Sheikh Mohammed
launched Internet City and Media City and private property for the benefit of
foreigners, laying thus the foundations of the "New Dubai".
2003 : ambitious
projects were launched , particularly that tallest tower in the world, and that
of 200 artificial islands.
2003 : Sheikh Mohammed
bin Rashid Al-Maktoum was pronounced as the leader of Dubai and the vice
president of UAE
2009: Emirates Terminal 3
and the metro are launched to serve the demands of a growing air and road
traffic.
2010 : Burj Khalifa was
selected as the tallest human establishment in the world.
